What is AdBlue®?

AdBlue® is a high-purity aqueous urea solution (32.5% urea in deionised water) used in Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems fitted to Euro 4, Euro 5, and Euro 6 diesel engines. It chemically converts harmful nitrogen oxides (NOx) in exhaust gas into harmless nitrogen and water vapour.

Also known as Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) or AUS 32, AdBlue® is a legally mandated fluid for SCR-equipped vehicles operating under international and Singapore emission standards. Running out of AdBlue® will trigger engine derate or shutdown in modern Euro 5 and Euro 6 vehicles.

Typically 3–5% of diesel fuel consumption. A heavy-duty truck using 1,000 litres of diesel per month will require approximately 30–50 litres of AdBlue®. Actual consumption varies by engine type, load, and driving conditions.
Euro 5 and Euro 6 vehicles will display a warning when the tank is low, then progressively limit engine power, and eventually prevent restart if the tank is completely empty. This is a regulatory safeguard. Always maintain adequate stock.
